So it's 1989, I turned 17 and some family friends bought me an airbrush knowing that I was "into" art. Just receiving this airbrush I pretty much didn't really care about this device but I was intrigued a bit. Being of age to drive, the airbrush got shoved aside and off I went down the road. Fast forward to Later that year and Hip Hopping out to some Bel Biv Devoe I recognized that their clothing was airbrushed ... LIGHT BULB !! My friend had these shortalls and asked if I would try and airbrush them so I said ... why not. Well, it just wasn't that easy, I didn't have an air compressor and I didn't know much about what I was getting into so I went to a local paint store called Standard Brands. They had an actual airbrush section and some paint and compressed air in cans. I was off and running, about forty dollars later !!! I set up the shortalls on a box and went to town, airbrushing my original Hip Hop characters "Skerbish & Guano". I did some lettering on them as well ... phrases if you will, that were in at that time, such as Dope, Hype & Fresh !! I did some pearl bling on them, some highlights and some shadows, these were looking pretty good for my very airbrushed item.
I WAS HOOKED !!!
I started painting on anything I could, sheets, cardboard, metal ... walls ... clothing. Since that time, over 20 years have passed and my love for the airbrush still stands very highly in MY art world. I've added a few tricks to my bag along the way, spraying various automotive paints and clears, working solely with 1-Shot Enamels for the past 8 years and even doing some acrylic and watercolor to pass the time.
I'm looking forward to the rest of my life and it wouldn't be complete with ART in it ... so pick up a brush, pen, pencil or spray can and get to creating. It's just that easy to let your creativity take over and indulge in hidden talents that you could be hiding !!
Thanks for your time, I hope you enjoy my blog ...
